Uninstall

If you want to remove BestPDF from your installation entirely, follow these steps in order. Skipping the first one will leave your invoices failing to render the moment BestPDF is gone — so don't skip it.

Your data is kept unless you say otherwise

Deactivating keeps BestPDF's database tables, so a later reactivation picks up where you left off. Removing them is a deliberate choice, made in step 2. If you do, export every design you want to keep first — see Managing your designs → Backing up your designs — and the settings too, under Settings → Advanced → Backup & Restore. There is no undo.

1. Point invoices and quotes back at WHMCS

Undo whichever route you used in Installation → step 5:

  • Child theme — go to Setup → General Settings → General and set the Template back from BestPDF-6 / BestPDF-21 / BestPDF-Nexus to its parent theme.
  • Lagom 2 — under Addons → RS Themes → Pages, set Invoice PDF and Quote PDF back to their stock options.
  • Hand-edited template — restore your backed-up invoicepdf.tpl and quotepdf.tpl, or delete the #BestPDF … #/BestPDF block from the top of each.

Confirm the result on Settings → Documents in the BestPDF interface: both badges should now read Not Active. That is the state you want before going further.

If you skip this, WHMCS will keep trying to include a module file that no longer exists.

2. Decide whether to keep your data

In the BestPDF interface, open Settings → Advanced. In the Danger Zone:

  • Leave Remove all data when the addon is deactivated off to keep every design, translation and setting in the database for a later reactivation.
  • Switch it on and click Save Changes to have deactivating drop BestPDF's tables as well.

See Configuration → Danger Zone.

3. Deactivate the addon

On Setup → Addon Modules, click Deactivate on the BestPDF row.

With the switch from step 2 on, this drops BestPDF's database tables — all designs, translations, and configuration are removed. With it off, the tables stay where they are, and WHMCS confirms that the data has been kept.

4. Remove the files

Delete these from the filesystem:

/modules/addons/bestpdf
/templates/bestpdf-six
/templates/bestpdf-twenty-one
/templates/bestpdf-nexus

If you used the Lagom 2 route, also remove the bestpdf page-option folders:

/templates/lagom2/core/pages/invoicepdf/bestpdf
/templates/lagom2/core/pages/quotepdf/bestpdf

5. (Optional) Clean up the asset directory

The BestPDF data storage directory (whatever path you configured under Configuration → Data Storage) holds uploaded images, fonts, and PDFs. These files are not removed automatically.

If you don't plan to reinstall, delete that directory too for a clean state. If you might reinstall later and want to keep your uploaded assets, leave it in place — they'll still be available if you point a fresh BestPDF install at the same path.

Reinstalling later

If you kept your data, re-uploading the files and activating the addon is all it takes: BestPDF comes back with your designs, translations and settings, license key included.

If you removed it, you start with just the bundled designs. To restore your previous ones:

  1. Re-install BestPDF (see Installation).
  2. Use the Import button on the Designs page to upload each .bestpdf.zip backup. See Managing your designs → Importing a design.

A settings file exported under Settings → Advanced restores the settings and translation overrides. If you also kept the data storage directory in step 5 above and point the new install at the same path, your uploaded raw assets will still be on disk — though they won't be wired up to any design until you import or recreate the designs that reference them.
